If you read these articles most days, you know that we love giving you recommendations for delightful places to visit and fun things to do. But, you can't spend your whole life living in a bubble. Even if that bubble is full of awesome general stores and fun arcades! If you're willing to consider the creepier side of the state, read through the stories of these totally eerie places. They just might have you up a little later than normal tonight.

1. The town of Hampton

This New Hampshire town is said to have some of the largest paranormal activity anywhere in the region. The best place to take it in is the Meetinghouse Green Memorial Park, which is said to be haunted by the ghost of the only woman ever convicted of witchcraft in New Hampshire. 2. Country Tavern, Nashua

The old farmhouse where this restaurant currently resides has been feeding New Hampshirites since the 1980s, but before that it was the home of a family full of secrets. The husband of the family killed his wife after learning of her pregnancy after he'd been away for a year. He killed the baby and threw his wife's body down a well. 3. The Amos J. Blake House Museum, Fitzwilliam

The Amos J. Blake House was built in 1837 and seen its fair share of ghost stories. In fact, it's been featured on a number of television shows that deal with ghostly activity. Experts say there are at least 11 ghosts living here as well as the spirit of one cat. For a house this size, that feels like a pretty large ratio of spirits to humans at any given time. Those who work here have reported feeling as though they're not alone (when no other humans are nearby) and hearing non-human voices and other sounds.

4. Lake of the Clouds Hut, Mount Washington

While absolutely beautiful, The Lake of the Clouds Hut began in tragedy. The hut now sits on the site of a shelter dating back to 1901 in response to the death of two hikers attempting to summit Mount Washington. There are many stories and rumors among hikers telling about "the presence" that can be felt during an overnight stay here. 5. The Beal House Inn, Littleton

This place is positively charming, but that doesn't mean its age doesn't show through. Specifically in the form of the ghosts that are said to roam the hallways. People have reported strange things including doors slamming and moving objects while they've been here.

6. The Mount Washington Hotel, Bretton Woods

This is one of the oldest hotels in New Hampshire and it, of course, comes with some spooky stories. It was built in 1900 by Joseph Stickney who died soon after it was completed. His wife re-married and lived in the hotel. Her room can still be booked and it's said that overnight visitors can definitely feel her presence. 7. The New Hampshire State Hospital, Concord

Now abandoned, this building was once known as "The New Hampshire Asylum for the Insane." It has seen reports of neglect of patients in some of the most terrible ways and, ultimately, was closed. Today, people visiting say they've encountered unexplained cold spots and screams coming from no one. Others have seen objects fall of shelves and seen the elevators miraculously spring to life.

8. Pine Hill Cemetery, Hollis

While this cemetery has changed over the years, the stories that date back for ages are still told to those locally. The Blood family plot can be found here and many people report chilly spots and eerie apparitions at night, including a little girl in a dress and a strange clawing sound. If you do go, be mindful of the fact that people's loved ones are buried here and be respectful.

9. Isle of Shoals

Today you can visit the Isle of Shoals for a wonderful summer day on the water. But its also the sight of one of the most grisly murders in the state's history. It was the scene of a gruesome ax murder of two women. A third barely escaped with her life, hiding in a seaside cave until her attacker disappeared. 10. Kimball Castle, Gilford

You won't be able to actually go inside these ruins, but we think just the stories are creepy enough to keep us up at night. Visitors have reported that the clocks inside once began working after long since being out of service. Others have told stories of lights turning on and off. More prevalent are stories of people simply feeling uneasy while being near the home. It's said that the spirit living here is not friendly and would prefer to be left alone.
