The little town of Goldfield, Nevada, is a mostly abandoned place, but it's different from most ghost towns. This town has many buildings still standing - it looks as though its residents simply walked away and abandoned it without warning. While around 200 people still live here, it's pretty much vacant and definitely creepy. Some say that it's haunted too, earning it a long-standing reputation as the creepiest abandoned town in Nevada.
Goldfield is the county seat of Esmerelda County. It was established in 1902, due to (what else?!) a gold rush.
Just two years later, the mines were producing 30 percent of the ore in California, with more than $2 million worth.
Though gold mining is still operational in the area, this town is mostly abandoned.
Shuttered buildings sit, decaying.
Home where families once lived are now empty.
While 200 or so people still live here, there's nowhere to get gas.
Of course, these abandoned cars don't need a working gas station, anyway.
The Goldfield Hotel has been vacant since the end of World War II. It's said to be haunted.
Visitors have reported sighting several ghosts here, including two that committed suicide on the third floor, and one called "The Stabber" who appears to rush visitors with a large knife before disappearing into thin air.
There is one business in town that's still thriving. The Santa Fe Motel and Saloon has been renovated and has rooms available for guests of this ghost town.
At the saloon, you can chat with the few remaining locals. What stories will they tell? Only one way to find out...
