The One Place Near Nashville That Must Be Seen To Be Believed

Chattanooga is a hot second from Nashville, isn’t it? It’s about two hours, 133 miles, and a long movie outside of Music City but being smack dab in the middle of the state can get a bit boring at times. The Cumberland Plateau is full of breathtaking natural beauty, but sometimes we need a view. A gorgeous, stunning view that looks out over the entire state – and isn’t four hours away from Nashville. Can you guess where we’re headed? Yep, that’s right, Lover’s Leap in Tennessee.

Lover's Leap is a part of Rock City, an experience that's shared both by Tennessee and Georgia. Each state likes to claim it for its own, but in all reality — it straddles the line. Quite solidly. But today we're focusing on Lover's Leap, the gorgeous rock that juts out of Lookout Mountain.

It's a popular tourist spot, trafficked by thousands of people on an annual basis. Plus, the view is absolutely legendary.

Did you know you could see seven states from the lookout point? Seven. States. Alphabetically, they are Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. The magnanimity of the view can be traced back to Civil War journals - that's a historic bit of beauty, wouldn't you say?

Here you can see Lookout Mountain from the valley below. It's quite prominent and affords a bit of a reputation for the flattened surrounding areas.

Interesting fact: you can most definitely get married on Lovers Leap. It's not recommended for anything bigger than an elopement, because you can't affect normal park traffic, but if you're looking to bring grandma, you can book your date at the Grandview. It's the event facility and you won't have to worry about the "leap" part.

The 4,100-foot Enchanted Trail is full of gorgeous rock formations and caves and in-season flowers. You'll want to keep a close call on your kids, though - these pathways are beautiful AND very, very high above the valley floor.

Curious why it's called, "Lover's Leap"? The story comes from hundreds of years ago, spawning from a Cherokee legend where two star-crossed lovers from warring tribes fell in love. When one was thrown from the outcropping, the other followed out of love and adoration. The rocks have been steeped in selfless love ever since.

It's the perfect story to go with an unforgettable location like Lover’s Leap in Tennessee. You can also visit Fairyland Caverns, Mother Goose Village, and the Swing-A-Long Bridge in Rock City, as well. This is a place of magic. For the experience of a lifetime? You win.

We can't claim this gorgeous place for Music City (great work, Chattanooga!) but we CAN be really excited it's only a couple of hours away.
