Enjoy Piping Hot Water At This Historic Hot Springs Resort In Montana

Here in Montana, we know better than anyone that a relaxing weekend means spending time at a hot springs resort. Our public hot springs range from rustic and rural to all-out elegant, but most of them fall somewhere in between.

Lost Trail Hot Springs is not a commonly known resort, even among Montanans. The property sits nestled in the Bitterroot Mountains just outside of Sula, in the self-described "middle of nowhere." But if peace and solitude are what you're craving, this is the place to be.

Lost Trail Hot Springs is a rustic hot springs resort with a history that spans over a century.

While this place has been known as Lost Trail Hot Springs since the 1970s, its known history dates back to 1892, when a woman tried to build a cabin here to help her disabled son have easy access to the water. Unfortunately, she was never able to finish building.

Over the course of the next few decades, ownership of the property changed several times, but it wasn't until the 1970s that it became the public resort that it is today.

The current owners, Mary Dell and Stann Honey, are running it as a fantastic, family-friendly getaway.

The main attraction is the large, chemical-free, beautiful hot springs pool.

This pool is open all year long, with a cover being placed over it in the winter. The mineral water bubbles up from the ground at 107 degrees year-round, with pool temperatures ranging from 95-103 degrees.

The property also has a quiet, enticing hot tub and a dry sauna.

This is the ultimate place to relax.

This place isn't exactly easy to reach, so if you visit, you'll probably want to spend the weekend.

Choose from a series of cabins, which range from hosting two to accommodating a group of eight.

The cabins all have electricity, running water, clean beds, and all the comforts of home.

You can also stay in an on-site RV park or in one of the two large lodges built to host big groups.

The on-site restaurant is temporarily closed, but they serve delicious oven-fired pizza here whenever possible.

A post-soak piping hot pizza here is out of this world, so take advantage when you see the Wood Fired Pizza Wagon on the property.
