Spend an evening under the stars at Knob Noster State Park which, along with the Astronomical Society of Kansas City and the Hi Lonesome Chapter of Missouri Master Naturalists, will host two Dark Skies viewing programs this summer.

Held at Shawnee Group Camp at the Missouri state park, the Dark Skies programs are set for June 30 and August 4, 2023. The event begins at 9 p.m. on both evenings.

The program offers the unique opportunity to learn more about dark skies and how to help protect them while also viewing the nighttime sky.

Before you head over to the state park for the special event, make sure you have everything you need for a comfortable evening. Organizers recommend bringing something to sit on (a chair or a blanket), water, snacks, and a flashlight.

Be sure to dress for the weather, too, and lather on the bug spray. You might want to bring extra, too.

The program may be canceled due to inclement weather or a cloudy sky. Stop by the Knob Noster State Park Facebook page to check for cancelations and additional information.
