If abandoned homes in Mississippi intrigue you, or abandoned places in general, you’re in for a real treat. We’ve found a neglected abode that’s not just among the creepiest abandoned houses in Mississippi. It’s easily one of the creepiest houses in the nation, and quite possibly the world, as it’s been featured in international publications. Once you have had the opportunity to come see it for yourself, we will understand why! Learn all about one of the eeriest abandoned homes in Mississippi below.

One of the eeriest abandoned houses in Mississippi, this deserted home can be found in Utica.

In 2016, the dilapidated house made international headlines when the Daily Mail UK did a piece on it, dubbing it “Hoarder House” because of all the items left inside.

However, the home was abandoned long before it was thrust into the international spotlight. The 5,000-square-foot abode has been left to decay on and off throughout the years.

As the story goes, a wealthy businessman and farmer built the home for roughly $4,000 a couple of years after the Civil War.

In 1929, a new owner took over the home. However, she was unable to make the payments, so the bank ended up repossessing it in 1937.

The house was eventually sold again in 1943, and though it remains in the same family, it’s been abandoned since the 1980s.

Aside from the changes in ownership, not much else is known about the Hoarder House. Well, other than the fact that it once served as a boarding house and was owned by siblings, who were well-known local entertainers.

The reason for the home’s abandonment remains unclear. However, it’s obvious that whoever deserted the home did so in a hurry.

It’s also obvious that the Hoarder House is slowly being taken over by nature and will soon be lost forever.
