The Ware-Hardwick Covered Bridge is a gorgeous and historic bridge that’s definitely worth a visit. It’s the longest bridge of its kind in the state!

Located in Ware, the bridge spans the Ware River on Old Gilbertville Road and Bridge Street.

The bridge was built in 1886. It has undergone several restorations and reconstructions over the years, but has lost none of its charm. It’s one of only a handful of intact historic covered bridges in the state.

The bridge is 137 feet long and 25 feet wide. The lattice siding covers the bridge while still allowing sunlight to peek through.

Below, the charming Ware River churns in a pebbly bed. The bridge actually survived a major flood in the 1930s which destroyed many nearby mills in Gilbertville.

The bridge has been extensively reinforced and is accessible to vehicles. Pedestrians should be aware that there is no dedicated walking area. If you intend to cross on foot, you need to be aware of traffic from both directions.
