Between our world-famous beaches and beautiful natural parks, there are plenty of ways to experience summer in Massachusetts. The Minuteman Bikeway is another great way to get outside and soak up the sunshine. This bike trail is popular with locals, visitors, and commuters alike.
The Minuteman Bikeway is a beautiful cycling path that runs between Bedford and Cambridge. The bikeway is 10 miles long and packed with lovely scenery.
It’s used by many Boston-area commuters to move between T connections, but it’s also a great way to experience the beauty of towns like Bedford, Lexington, and Arlington.
The bikeway starts at South Road in Arlington and connects to the Reformatory Branch Rail Trail. If you stick to the path the whole way, you’ll wind up at Alewife Station in Cambridge.
The path actually passes through the area where the Revolutionary War began in 1775. Cyclists can hop off in Lincoln and view historic buildings like the Captain William Smith House.
You’ll also travel past Spy Pond and weave your way beneath shady, leafy trees. The path is fully paved and usually at least 8 feet wide with a gentle grade, so it’s stroller- and wheelchair-accessible.
There’s no charge to use the bikeway, but keep in mind that the path may be busy during commuting hours and on sunny weekend days.
The bikeway is suitable for cyclists of all skill levels, including kids and beginners. Please be sure to wear a helmet and watch out for pedestrians and joggers.
