Pedal Along The Coast During Maine’s Foliage Season For The Ultimate Fall Outing
A half-day fall cycling tour in Maine offers scenic views of lighthouses and the coastline.
Maine is one of the most active states in the country. Just one look around and it's clear why we love to be outside! Lakes and rivers in the summer, snow in the winter and mountain hikes in the spring make life here great. But fall is when things come alive! As the leaves change, consider some new ways to stay active while seeing the sights. This fall cycling tour in Maine is just a half-day and leads to some of our favorite lighthouses.
Cycling in Maine is a great way to see the sights. From nature to architecture, pedaling your way around town is fun and faster than walking.
And while cycling is healthy, it's also one of the best ways to experience the sights this time of year. The air is cooler and the leaves are changing, making a bike ride both easier and beautiful.
You can certainly take yourself on a ride, but we love the idea of doing it in a group. This tour will let you cycle southern Maine, while also having fun with friends new and old.
The 5 Lighthouse half-day tour begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Portland Ocean Gateway cruise terminal. From here you'll take a shuttle to the starting point at Willard Beach where you'll begin riding on the bike path.
Next up is Bug Light to see the Portland breakwater.
The tour includes lots of time for exploration, so get off and see the sights. The views here reach towards the city of Portland and towards the Eastern Prom, which is just on the other side of the city.
After learning about liberty ships built during the Second World War, you'll head to the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse.
From here, you'll explore the Portland coast and arrive at the Portland Head Light.
One of the state's most iconic lights, this is a great photo opp!
Along the way you'll enjoy lots of photo stops, but perhaps the most photogenic thing is the lobster rolls you'll dig into eagerly after working up that hunger!
This is a great way to see the Portland area. And, with just a half-day commitment, you can still make it to your dinner reservation on time.
The 5 Lighthouse Tour through Summer Feet Cycling runs from May through October 31st. The cost is $99 and includes your bike and helmet, the tour guide, the sights, and a history lesson.
