The Hidden Castle In Maine That Almost No One Knows About

Beckett's Castle in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, is a historic and haunted property currently on the market for $3.5 million.

With a history that involves the British, it's no surprise that we have a few castled located within our state lines. Some have been converted into local institutions, like libraries or museums while others have undergone face lifts to become family homes. Many are known, so we can't exactly say they're a secret (especially since we wrote this article a few years ago revealing our favorites) but we can divulge that one of them is on the market right now! If you're the type that enjoys the finer things in life with a side of history and hauntings, you might want to check out this castle hidden in Cape Elizabeth!

Beckett's Castle is not exactly "hidden" to those who live in the area.

Located on the rocky coast of this southern Maine area, it's one of the most recognizable structures to those who grew up here.

Beckett castle was built by writer, poet and lawyer, Sylvester Beckett in 1871.

It was most recently owned by Nancy Harvey who purchased the castle in 1981.

If you're familiar with the property is might be from hearing the many ghost stories that have come from inside its walls, passed down (and perhaps slightly embellished) from decade to decade.

Previous occupants have reported seeing framed photos fly off the walls, sheets be ripped off of beds and doors opening.

However, some say that any ghostly figure living here is friendly.

Don't let tales of a friendly ghost deter you from considering pooling your money to buy this incredible castle property!

Especially since it's been completely gutted and renovated to create an entirely new space on the inside.

Pretty sure a ghost would be on best behavior in a room like this.

And this room looks a little too bright and airy for ghosts that want to hide away and then pull sheets off the bed.

And, even if the ghost of Samuel Beckett IS lurking around - you can always go outside and enjoy this view on the deck.

Or, from inside on a colder day.

Would you ever guess that Beckett's Castle looks like THIS in the back?

The property, located at 7 Singles Road, is on the market for $3.5 Million.

Which might be worth it for the sweeping coastal views alone!

The 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom 1,981 square foot castle property is being sold by Tish Wipple of Town and Shore Real Estate and the listing can be viewed here.
