The Chapel In Maine That’s Located In The Most Unforgettable Setting

Some of Maine's most beautiful features are not only natural. They're beautiful places nestled within our gorgeous landscape. Vesper Hill Children's Hospital is a great example of this. First, a chapel is a place of worship, but it's not necessarily devoted to any particular faith. In most cases, a chapel is a place to feel closer to just about any higher power in which you believe.

Vesper Hill Children's Chapel is an outdoor chapel featuring a beautiful formal garden. Within the garden are wonderful annuals and perennials, herbs, and trees,

The chapel is located between Rockport and the beautiful Aldermere Farms. This non-denominational outdoor chapel seats about 50 people and has played host to weddings, baptisms and memorials.

But it’s worth checking out even if you don’t have an event.

If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, a walk through the gardens provides a place to think, relax and meditate.

It’s also wonderful for people who find inspiration in being outdoors. It’s not uncommon to find people painting, singing or drawing in the chapel area. It’s completely open to the public for these things.

The area was once home to Tamarack Lodge, a hotel that burned down in 1954.

The chapel itself was built by Helene Bok in 1960 to honor children. A portion of the stones from the foundation of the original hotel was incorporated into the gardens surrounding the structure.

The scenery in the area is absolutely incredible and will make you fall in love with Rockland Harbor.

The dedication plaque in the chapel describes the reason for its creation.

The chapel area is so full of love.

That's because so many marriages have taken place here.

The view is absolutely stunning.

You'll pass Megunticook Golf Course before seeing a driveway on your right. Here you'll see a boulder with the world "Vesper Hill" inscribed on it. You've arrived!
