Grab Some Burgers And Rent A Canoe At This Awesome Spot Near New Orleans

The Chimes Restaurant in Covington offers a diverse menu and outdoor activities like canoeing on the Bogue Falaya River.

When you live in a city full of incredible restaurants, it can be hard to convince you to leave the city limits for food. This one restaurant may be a 40-minute drive from New Orleans, but not only can you chow down on a hearty burger, but you can rent a canoe and paddle down the Bogue Falaya River. It's the perfect afternoon adventure, right?

If you've ever spent any time in Baton Rouge, you're probably familiar with The Chimes Restaurant.

A cornerstone for many a LSU student's diet for decades, they've expanded in their 25 years to include a second location in Baton Rouge and their third location in Covington.

Their Covington location is nestled along the Bogue Falaya River.

If you have the option to sit on the patio, do it! The views are simply mesmerizing.

When it comes to the menu, The Chimes has a little bit of everything.

Their extensive menu covers everything from a traditional caesar salad to grilled pork chops.

Go ahead and order an appetizer or two while you wait on your meal.

You can't go wrong with their spinach and artichoke dip or their fried pickles, but their boudin balls, pictured above, are a customer favorite.

Burger lovers will love the many burger options to choose from.

Enjoy a traditional cheeseburger or load yours up with jalapenos and bacon.

Afterwards, head out back.

There's a boardwalk trail that will take you closer to the river.

Canoe & Trail Adventures operates out of here, and this is where you'll launch your kayak.

They also rent canoes and paddleboards.

There are several different rental options to choose from.

1, 2, 3, or 5-hour rentals are available. We'd suggest 2 or 3 hours so that you can really take your time on the river.

On a beautiful day, there's nothing better than a lovely paddle down the river.
