Every year, the Renaissance Festival descends upon Tangipahoa Parish for an epic six weeks of 16th-century magic. This year, they’re back for the 22nd year and it promises to be the best one yet. Dust off your favorite costume, get your tickets and prepare to transport yourself into a magical realm of Renaissance fun.
If you’ve never been to the Renaissance Festival, you’re in for a treat.
The location in Hammond gets a full makeover and transforms into "Albright," a 16th-century village in England. From the moment you walk through the gates, you'll feel like you've been transported back through time.
More than 600 artisans, entertainers, and educational demonstrators flood the village for six weekends in November and December.
Think of it like Disney World but for the Age of Discovery. The festival does an incredible job of making everything feel like you're in the Renaissance era.
There will be loads of activities to try your hand at.
Think you could hit the bullseye? You'll also find several street merchants peppered around the village, showing off their trades. Have you ever seen a blacksmith forge a weapon? Or maybe you'd rather watch a joust between two noblemen. There's always something going on at this magical festival.
Kids will also be included in the fun!
From face painting to pony rides, there will be plenty of activities for the little ones to enjoy.
With 7 stages of entertainment, street performers, and a huge merchant row, you'll want to make sure you arrive early so you have the entire day to stroll through the village.
Merchants will be selling everything from elf-ears to jewelry, all hand-crafted. You might even be inspired to pick up a sword and join in on the fun.
And plenty of food.
Oh, the food. It's the best part!
You've got to get yourself a turkey leg and some mead.
If you're going to be in a 15th-century village, you've got to eat like it!
