Starting from mid-September all the way until Spring, you can pretty much bet there’s a festival happening every weekend somewhere in Louisiana. 1. Alligator Festival

2. Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival

Celebrate Labor Day weekend by heading out to Morgan City for the 82nd annual Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival. 3. Oldies But Goodies Fest & Smokin’ Oldies Cook-Off

Grab your poodle skirt and bell bottoms, because this festival takes you back to the good old days. Dance the day away to amazing live bands, enjoy the antique car show, compete in a jitterbug contest, and compete for top honors to see who has the best BBQ around. 4. Kiwanis Pepper Festival

5. Highland Jazz and Blues Festival

Come out and watch the best local and national musicians take the stage at this popular Shreveport festival. This free festival has delicious food from local vendors, artwork from local artists, and the event is dog-friendly! September 15 at Columbia Park: 700 Columbia St., Shreveport, LA 71104.

6. Gueydan Duck Festival

The first Gueydan Duck Festival was held in 1977 and it has grown considerably ever since. From skeet shooting to decoy carving, this perfectly Cajun festival is one you won’t want to miss. September 20-23. 404 Dallas Guidry Rd., Gueydan, Louisiana 70542.

7. Fried Chicken Festival

If you love fried chicken (and who doesn’t?) then you’re going to want to mark this one on your calendar. The dog-friendly festival includes live music, eating contests, and delicious food from 35 local restaurants. September 22-23. Woldenberg Park: 1 Canal St., New Orleans, LA 70130.

8. Zydeco Festival

Kick off September with a fun-filled festival the whole family will enjoy. Celebrating Creole culture, this festival is filled with toe-tapping zydeco music from seven leading Zydeco bands, arts and crafts, and of course, great food. September 1. 1939 W. Landry St., Opelousas, LA 70570.

9. Sugar Cane Festival

Celebrating the sugar cane industry, this fun festival is filled with parades, a carnival, live music, and more. The 77th annual Sugar Cane Festival kicks off September 26 and runs until the 30th. 600 Parkview Dr., New Iberia, LA 70563.
