One of the most treasured activities to do during winter is to track down the best Christmas light displays and stand in awe of their magic. The best way to experience this enchanting pastime is by strolling along a snowy path, all bundled up with family, gazing at a beautifully lit-up destination. If this sounds like something you'd like to experience for yourself when you spend Christmas in Kentucky, then pay a visit to ChristmasTown at the Creation Museum in Petersburg. The gardens and property surrounding the museum are transformed into a winter wonderland that offers a winter walk that will positively enchant you and in its own way, it is the best winter hike in Kentucky.
Starting in late November, the beautiful gardens and surroundings of the Creation Museum will turn into an enchanting Christmas Town. The event typically runs until the end of December.
The outdoor event is free to attend, but do keep in mind that there is a small fee for parking and there are extra charges for certain activities, as well as food and retail items. But with no admission charge, it's a great spot to take the family for a winter hike in Kentucky, through a magical Christmas display.
The museum's botanical gardens are decorated with thousands of lights, and the display varies somewhat from year to year, with new additions and even more lights this year! It's the perfect way to kick-off both the holiday season and winter in Kentucky.
Imagine glowing bridges and ponds, towering, colorful trees and pathways lit by sparkling plants and decorations. Simply beautiful!
Aside from the beautiful lights, there's more you can experience during your visit.
There's a live Nativity, and Bible characters who roam the garden and tell stories. And of course you can always purchase a ticket to enter the museum itself and check out the exhibits.
There's also a spot to warm up with a good meal or add a little thrill to your visit with some zip lining.
Noah's Cafe is outdoors, but heated and enclosed and offers menu items, including a special turkey dinner. The museum offers zip lining year round, but during ChristmasTown (for an extra fee), you can fly over the Christmas lights on three exhilarating lines.
This has to be one of the most unique things to do in winter in Kentucky.
The lovely Christmas light hike in Kentucky through ChristmasTown is a great tradition to start as a family.
To avoid crowds, you may want to visit during the week and parking can get hectic, so keep that in mind. But the beautiful display of enchanting lights is well worth your efforts to experience this unforgettable winter walk if you're looking for things to do in Kentucky.
