This Eerie And Fantastic Footage Takes You Inside Kansas’s Abandoned Topeka State Hospital

Explore the remnants of the abandoned Topeka State Hospital, a site with a haunting history of alleged abuse.

Abandoned buildings are always intriguing, but we usually don't have the time or ability to explore them all. Many of you will remember this old state mental hospital from before it closed in 1997. This unsavory business is thankfully closed, but a bit of it remains even after most has been demolished. Come check out this abandoned Topeka State Hospital building!

Please do not attempt to also enter this building. It is recommended that anyone wishing to visit first obtain permission from the local police force or other authorized personnel. Be safe, and enjoy the video!

Have you heard of the Topeka State Hospital? Though most of the buildings have since been demolished, this creepy insane asylum ran from 1872 until 1997.

However, the creepiness doesn't have anything to do with the mentally ill or those who were residents here. It is creepy because of the alleged abuse many of them suffered, which is what led to its closure in '97.

Inside the building is plenty of graffiti, with the expected amount of broken glass and torn up structures.

Rumors of it being haunted are of course prevalent,

It's a lot less scary with the silly graffiti and signs of recent life, but heavy windows and the thoughts of what happened here behind closed doors still give you a bit of a chill.

Though we have lost the main historic buildings and even the foundation they sat on, we have plenty of stories from those who have been there.

YouTube creator Darrin Hartford has filmed this recent video of the still-standing Menninger building, which has remained throughout the years. Take a look inside!
