Bring An ATV In Iowa To Ride Around A Former Gypsum Mine That Has Been Transformed Into Trail Heaven

Gypsum City OHV Park in Fort Dodge, Iowa, offers extensive trails and camping options for ATV and off-road motorcycle enthusiasts.

In the 1850s, early settlers discovered something valuable around Fort Dodge, Iowa. Rich deposits of gypsum are here, the  product of a prehistoric age. Mining operations moved in to extract the mineral, which is a key part of drywall used in homes.

Eventually, some of the mines gave up their last load of gypsum, leaving vast areas of land without a use-until some local visionaries came up with an idea that's now entertained thousands of off-road enthusiasts.
