Wander Back In Time When You Visit The Howard County Museum In Indiana

Kokomo, Indiana is a beautiful little town with a population of just under 60,000 people just waiting to be explored and discovered. There are lots of fun things to do in Indiana, but Kokomo is particularly delightful thanks to the sheer number of things you can get into while you're here. For example, there are plenty of history museums in Indiana, but there's one right here in town that's especially unique: the Howard County Museum, which can be found on Sycamore Street (and is also very difficult to miss).

The museum itself is truly difficult to miss.

Set in a stunningly beautiful old mansion whose construction started in 1889, you'll learn all there is to know about Kokomo and Howard County specifically. It's always fun to learn the history of a place you're visiting, I think, and this is a great example of that.

The place is absolutely, jaw-droppingly elegant, and the architecture is extraordinary.

It blends both Queen Anne and Romanesque Revival building styles to create the intensely memorable work of art it is now.

The interior is just as jaw-dropping, with truly elegant furnishing that makes the place look like it did way back when it was someone's home.

Nowadays, though, nobody calls it home - except for perhaps the docents who spend their days here.

The entire museum is an amazing trip back in time to old-school Kokomo, with photos that'll blow your mind.

Tour the mansion at your own pace, using your phone to scan various QR codes throughout the property to learn about all the different points and stories you'll encounter while you're here.

The museum is closed on Mondays, but open Tuesday through Sunday.

The window to visit is brief - from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. - but I promise it's worth spending an afternoon here!

Adults are $10, and kids aged six to 17 are $5. Kiddoes five and under are always free.
