Illinois has some legitimately amazing landmarks. But there are also some pretty offbeat ones. As you drive across Illinois this summer, here are some roadside attractions you need to stop and see.
1. Giant Catsup Bottle (Collinsville)
This giant catsup bottle is actually a water tower. It is 170 feet tall and was built in 1949.
2. Leaning Tower of Niles (Niles)
Who would have thought there would be a leaning tower in Niles? It is a half size replica of the tower in Pisa. It is 94 feet tall.
3. Superman Statue (Metropolis)
When in Metropolis, everyone has to visit the Superman statue. And you definitely have to do the iconic pose.
4. Gold Pyramid (Wadsworth)

This is a six story golden pyramid, even surrounded by a moat. It is thought to be the largest 24-karat gold-plated object in North America.
5. Gemini Giant (Wilmington)
Gemini Giant is a landmark statue on Route 66. He holds a rocket ship in his hands.
6. Piasa Bird (Alton)
The Piasa bird is a mythical creature supposedly seen by Father Jacques Marquette. This birdlike monster thing was painted on cliffs in Alton.
7. Hippie Memorial (Arcola)
This is the only hippie memorial. It is a whopping 62 feet long.
8. World's Largest Wind Chime (Casey)
Casey has a lot of giant things for which they hold a Guinness record. This is the largest wind chime.
9. America's Largest Cross (Effingham)
The largest cross in America is in Effingham. Believe us, you won't understand how large it is until you drive by it.
10. Popeye Statue (Chester)
Popeye's creator, Elzie Segar, was from Chester. So around town, you can see Popeye character statues.
11. Henry's Rabbit Ranch (Staunton)
On your jaunt down Route 66, you have to stop at Henry's. There are rabbits...actual rabbits and VWs. There are plenty of collectibles, too.
