13 Awesome Things You Can Do In Hawaii When It’s Raining

Discover various indoor activities in Hawaii to enjoy during the rainy season.

With hurricane season upon us, and the last few weeks bringing more rain that Hawaii is used to seeing, we can all easily feel cooped up in our homes. Despite the fact that most cities in Hawaii don’t receive a ton of rain, there are still some pretty awesome indoor activities where you can escape the rain – or enjoy the air conditioning – for a few hours.

1) Head to a museum, like Honolulu’s Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum.

2) Do some shopping – Oahu’s Pearlridge is enclosed, with a tram running between the two halfs of the mall, and the Shops at Wailea on Maui are covered.

3) Enjoy the water without being drenched at the Waikiki Aquarium or the Maui Ocean Center.

4) Take in a show. Depending on where you live, there are a variety of live entertainment options to choose from.

5) Why not treat yourself to a day of relaxation at a local spa?

6) Or check out a local bowling alley.

7) See a movie. We know it’s not an original idea, but it is a classic rainy day activity.

8) Do something a little unconventional, and take a trip to the Royal Hawaiian Shooting Club.

9) If you’re on Oahu, check out Volcanic Rock Gym for some indoor adventure.

10) Play some mini golf at an indoor course.

11) Take a drive around the island, but be careful - if it rains too much, flooding is pretty common.

12) Go out to eat – all I want on a rainy day is dolsot bibimbap or pho, and Hawaii has some of the best.

13) Wait ten minutes – because when it’s not hurricane season, you can bet that the rain will let up pretty quickly, a rainbow will appear, and you can get back to whatever outdoor activity you had previously planned.
