One Of The Most Haunted Cemeteries In Florida Is Also The Most Beautiful
Bosque Bello Cemetery in Fernandina Beach, FL, is known for its haunting beauty and ghost sightings.
Some might find cemeteries to be a bit on the scary side, but others find the charm and history alluring. I've got to say, there's something hauntingly beautiful about Southern cemeteries in particular. The sight of the Spanish moss-draped oaks shading the tombstones makes for such a beautiful scene. Cemeteries hold keys to the past, and the reported hauntings that have happened over the years make them all the more fascinating. We've all heard legends about ghosts lurking in graveyards, but it can feel like they're the stuff of children's stories. Next time you find yourself wondering "Are there haunted cemeteries near me?" the answer is a firm yes, if you're near the Georgia-Florida border. It's there that you'll find Bosque Bello Cemetery, noted as one of the most haunted cemeteries in Florida. It dates all the way back to the late 1700s, so it's no surprise that it's said to be haunted. It's got an unrivaled beauty to it that makes it a surprisingly lovely spot for a stroll.
You'll find this cemetery in Fernandina Beach, FL, not very far from the state line with Georgia. It's both one of the most beautiful and haunted cemeteries in Florida, if you believe the stories.
This place is incredibly scenic and certainly offers up a slice of Old Florida. A visit here makes it easy to see why people treated cemeteries as parks in Victorian times!
It's believed that this cemetery was established by the Spanish in 1798. There's a newer section of the cemetery that was added by the city of Fernandina Beach in the mid-1940s.
Many of the graves here date all the way back to 19th-century Spanish residents. You'll find a wide array of citizens here, including rum runners, politicians, boat captains, magicians, lighthouse keepers, and more.
It's amazing to think about all the lives that these graves represent.
One of the most interesting things about this cemetery is that it's reportedly haunted. Multiple ghost sightings have been reported over the years.
Victims of both yellow fever and typhoid fever epidemics were buried here. These tragic illnesses took the lives of many children, and so it's not really surprising that the majority of alleged ghost sightings were of children wandering the cemetery grounds at night.
There are reports of eerie sounds heard at night and many ghost stories swirling around this haunted cemetery in Florida. Even so, it maintains a history, charm, and beauty that are unparalleled.
It's easy to see where the cemetery's name comes from - it means "beautiful woods" in Spanish!
