100 Witches Paddleboarding Chatfield Reservoir in Colorado: The Halloween Event You Never Knew You Needed
The Witch Paddle at Chatfield Reservoir in Colorado is a unique Halloween event where participants dress as witches and paddleboard on the lake.
When Spooky Season is in the air, so are the witches. Well, not exactly—at least not in the Denver area. Here, we see no witches riding their brooms through the night sky. Instead, they paddle along the Chatfield Reservoir. It's true! Such a fun and quirky event does exist, and you can find the Witch Paddle in Colorado in mid-October. Welcome to the aptly named Witch Paddle!
This fun event will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. The Witch Paddle is just that: a fun and festive event that affords paddleboarders an opportunity to get dressed up and hit the lake.
Keep your eyes peeled, as you may spot a few wizards and other mythical characters, too.
Can you imagine a more fun way to kick off the Halloween season? Neither can we!
When they say the check-in starts at 7 a.m., they mean it, so be sure to get there early to secure your spot along the shore. If you're worried about making the start (Denver-area traffic can be a bear!), you can always book a vacation rental nearby. There are several in the area, like this affordable home in Littleton that's just a few minutes from the Chatfield Reservoir Swimbeach—and after the paddle, you can get back to a hot shower quickly.
Even if you aren't participating on the water, the event promises to be memorable for all ages. While watching the event is free, you will have to pay a $10 per vehicle per day fee to enter Chatfield State Park unless you have an annual pass. The fee is $4 per person if you enter on foot or by bicycle. To learn more—or to check out current conditions before you go—check out the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website. The Witch Paddle in Colorado is a fun event that only comes around once a year. If you love paddle boarding and getting your witch on, you've got no reason to miss this wonderfully witchy event. Do you know what would make the event even better? Showing off your witch paddling fandom wherever you go. For example, you could pick up one of these paddling witch stickers from Etsy and slap it on your water bottle, your laptop, or even your paddle board.
