This Outdoor Library Hiding In Colorado Is Just Begging To Be Visited

The Rocky Mountain Land Library in Fairplay, Colorado, uniquely combines a vast collection of books with the surrounding natural environment.

When you think of libraries, what comes to mind? Shelves upon shelves of books? A colorful children's area? Computer stations galore? While old-fashioned libraries are as wonderful as they are vital, there is one here in Colorado that stands out from the rest... and just wait until you see why:

You know Fairplay/South Park as being a small mountain town and the exaggerated setting of a popular Comedy Central show...

...but did you know that it is also home to an incredible land library?

What exactly is a land library? "Connecting community and land," the Rocky Mountain Land Library merges its surrounding land with relevant books, making for both a nature and education lover's dream come true!

Now for the million dollar question: just how does it work? Inspired by a library in Wales, the Rocky Mountain Land Library offers more than 35,000 books about the area's animals, plants, and eco-system...

...pristine land on which to explore...

...and a number of special events, volunteer workdays, and workshops.

Since the library is still being developed, there are no set times for when they are open; however, they do host a number of events through the year and invite the community to both explore and get involved.
