The Centennial State may just be home to some of the most unique churches in the country! From the beautiful and quaint Chapel on the Rock to the colorful and intricate Shambhala Mountain Center, there is a size, religion/denomination, and architectural preference for everyone, which includes this one Colorado church that is a little unconventional to say the least:
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word church as a "body or organization of religious believers," which usually brings to mind images like Denver's Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (pictured)...
...but also applies to such communities as the International Church of Cannabis.
Located in Denver, the International Church of Cannabis serves devout Elevationists, who use Colorado’s legal marijuana as a "way to reveal the best version of self, discover a creative voice and enrich their community with the fruits of that creativity."
In addition to offering a place for Elevationists to gather, create, and grow, the Church educates on and encourages the use of marijuana, as they believe that an "individual’s spiritual journey, and search for meaning, is one of self-discovery that can be accelerated with ritual cannabis use."
While you must be a registered church member to attend the weekly "celebrations," the International Church of Cannabis does offer public hours every Thursday through Sunday from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Unfortunately, there are not too many pictures available of the interior of the church; however, this mesmerizing video from the International Church of Cannabis' Facebook page gives us an inside look at the painting of this colorful chapel by artist Okuda San Miguel:
The International Church of Cannabis is located at 400 S Logan St. in Denver. For more information on the church (or becoming an Elevationist), please visit their website.
