The Baha'i House of Worship is the only temple of its kind in North America and one of only seven in the entire world.

The temple has unique circular shape with nine sides, and is the oldest remaining building dedicated to this faith.

Admission to the property is free. Hours for the sanctuary and gardens are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., daily, and the welcome center and bookstore are also available during business hours.

The building is meant to symbolize unity and invite people to worship God in their own way.

It features nine marvelous gardens and fountains that surround the building and represent landscapes from different cultures.

It took 50 years to complete this project, which includes both the temple and gardens.

Construction lasted through both World Wars, and the grounds were finally opened to the public in 1953.

The location was chosen due to Chicago being at the center of North America.

Contributors to its construction also liked the spot because it is along breathtaking Lake Michigan.

The house of worship offers free devotional programs that are held daily with talks from various speakers. Sundays feature music, singing, and chanting.
