While you can certainly find many magical holiday displays around Chicago, its neighborhoods also have a lot to offer. Here's one neighborhood home that not only puts on a fabulous light display - it also reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas.
The Parcell Family on Cheever Avenue in Geneva knows how to celebrate Christmas!
People come from far and wide to view this neighborhood holiday display. They call it 'Twas The Night Before Christmas.
The display has several different features, including Santa's Workshop, the Polar Bear Cafe, a nativity, and even Santa's Skate Park.
Santa's Workshop is one of the oldest features of the display, and is still a favorite.
In fact, Santa's Workshop is a tradition for the Parcell Family. When their son was just a small boy, they built a shed and decorated it as "Santa's Workshop" for Christmas. When they moved into the home on Cheever Avenue, they built another one at his request. That was more than 20 years ago, but it's still one of the most beloved features of the display!
The lights in the display are synchronized to music, which can be heard on the radio of your car.
It's even fun to visit during the day, especially when there's a light blanket of snow in the yard.
The countdown clock reminds us how many more days until Santa arrives. Even if you're adult, you can't help but be a tiny bit excited.
The Parcell Family also believes that it's important to remember those who are less fortunate during this holiday season. 'Twas The Night Before Christmas became an official drop-off spot for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots charity in 2004.
Each year, they collected hundreds of toys for children who otherwise might not have anything to unwrap on Christmas morning. When you visit this beautiful home, please bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate if you can!
Every visitor who stops by can also take home a gift. In the spirit of the movie "Polar Express," every visitor who believes in Santa may take an "I Believe Bell."
You'll find this neighborhood display at 813 Cheever Avenue, Geneva, IL 60134. Lights will be on through New Year's Eve. For more information, visit the family's website. You can also see a live stream of the lights here.
