Hiding in the historical and fun Calico Ghost Town is a train ride featuring magnificent mountain views and an exciting and interesting story. The ghost town, now a popular attraction, is a peek into the past and a fun day trip any time of the year. The Calico & Odessa Railroad is a great way to travel back in time to the silver mining days.

The train is a classic Calico image and an excellent place to start your day of exploration in the town.

The family-friendly train takes you around the silver mining town and allows you to experience a bit of the adventure that the miners had every day. The mountain views are stunning, especially at sunset.

Calico was purchased by Water Knott of Knott’s Berry Farm in the 1960s and restored to its former 1880s glory so you can see it as it was meant to be seen. Check out the mining ruins and imagine what it was like to live here way back in the day.

The railroad also allows you to see the remains of the mines more up close. The mounds once used to mine silver are still visible, although a lot of the other parts of the mines have been leveled.

Calico was closed down because of a decline in silver prices, causing the miners to leave in droves in the late 1890s.

After your ride on the train, head to the Calico House Restaurant for a tasty lunch in a historical building.

It’s as close as you can get to living the way the miners lived (minus the now-removed saloons and brothels all over town, of course).
