The Biltmore In Arizona Just Turned 95 Years Old And It’s The Perfect Spot For A Day Trip

Some places truly stand the test of time and draw thousands upon thousands of visitors each year. Built in 1929, The Arizona Biltmore has earned a reputation as the "Jewel of the Desert." Over the past 95 years, this luxury resort has seen its share of influential people including politicians and celebrities. The year 2024 marks the Arizona Biltmore's 95th anniversary and, if you haven't yet been, consider taking a day trip to see this remarkable landmark in Phoenix.

The Arizona Biltmore first opened on Feb. 23, 1929. This year marks this Phoenix landmark's 95th anniversary.

For its grand opening in 1929, 600 invitations were sent out. The response from those who attended were overwhelmingly positive.

During its construction, 250,000 blocks and 33,000 pounds of copper were used to construct the roof. This is a true architectural marvel in the Grand Canyon State!

The hotel was built by brothers Warren and Charles MacArthur who had moved from Chicago to Phoenix. It was sold to the Wrigleys in 1930 sometime after the stock market crash. Eventually, in the 1970s, the Talleys purchased the hotel.

With its stunning Frank Lloyd Wright-esque architecture and decorative touches, this hotel is a true work of art. You could spend all day marveling at the decor and design of this luxurious property, including its meticulously manicured grounds.

One of the most remarkable features of this hotel is the ceiling in the Aztec Room. Here you will find the second-largest gold-leaf ceiling in the world.

For reference, the Taj Mahal in Agra, India is home to the world's largest gold-leaf ceiling.

During the year-long 95th anniversary celebration, there will be a number of events and ways to celebrate. One way is to take one of the 90-minute walking Legends History Tours.

On the tour, you will learn about the Biltmore's past including its restoration. After the tour, grab a drink at its famous bar, book some time at the spa, rent a poolside cabana, or make a dinner reservation.

The hotel will also offer specials for those who would like to spend the night. You can check out the Arizona Biltmore 95th Anniversary Package.
