You don't have to travel to the rainforest to be surrounded by beautiful butterflies. There's a butterfly house in Arizona where thousands of colorful winged creatures roam free: Butterfly Wonderland in Scottsdale. It's the largest butterfly conservatory in the nation, and your visit promises to be an unforgettable one.
Located at the Arizona Boardwalk, Butterfly Wonderland is the largest butterfly conservatory in the U.S.
Bringing the rainforest to the desert, this unique experience takes visitors up close and personal with thousands of butterflies from 70 different species.
The butterflies have traveled to Arizona from all over the world, and they come in all sorts of beautiful colors. You'll be in awe as you stroll through the gardens and see them flitting to and fro like fairies in an enchanted forest.
Make sure to wear bright colors - the butterflies love vibrant hues, and if you're lucky, one just might settle in the palm of your hand.
Equal parts fun and educational, Butterfly Wonderland features informational signs detailing everything from the twice-annual monarch migration to the process by which caterpillars become butterflies.
Speaking of the butterfly life cycle, you'll be able to watch butterflies emerge from their chrysalises and enter the conservatory for the first time!
Although the butterflies are the main attraction, you'll also see Koi fish, tropical birds, and even two chickens. Other activities include a 3D theater and edible insect station, as well as ocean, arthropod, honeybee, and reptile exhibits.
Don't forget to bring a camera - there are tons of fun photo opportunities to take advantage of.
The conservatory also has an on-site gift shop and café where you can round out your visit with souvenirs and a delicious meal.
Visit the Butterfly Wonderland website or Facebook page for more information, such as current hours.
