This Iconic Holiday Event in Arizona is the One Thing You Must Do This Season

The holiday season looks a bit different here in Arizona (at least in Southern Arizona) than it does elsewhere. We have saguaros and palm trees instead of snow, and it's rarely ever cold enough to justify breaking out a winter coat. Humor aside, just because it rarely feels like Christmas in our neck of the woods doesn't mean we can't get into the spirit just like the rest of the country. There are numerous Christmas light displays in Arizona that are nothing short of dazzling, and the Mesa Temple puts on one of the most iconic shows of all. A Valley tradition for over four decades, the event is among the largest of its kind in the Southwest, drawing as many as a million visitors. It's a can't-miss attraction that will quickly find its way onto your annual holiday season bucket list.

Mark your calendars for November 29! At 5 p.m. sharp, the north lawn of the Mesa Arizona Temple will be set ablaze by hundreds of thousands of dazzling holiday lights. The highly anticipated event attracts visitors from all over the region, and all are welcome to come experience the magic. You'll see lights in every color of the rainbow; they're wrapped around tree trunks, illuminating garden foliage, and some even depict biblical figures such as camels and shepherds. Walking the temple grounds and taking in the spectacle is truly a magical experience for people from all religions and walks of life.

In addition to the lights, the temple's International Nativity Display is a family-friendly attraction that features nativity scenes from all over the world. Marvel at the stunning, intricate works of art that are both moving and inspiring. The nativity display is open the same hours as the light display, with additional daytime viewing hours from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Visitors' Center.
