Hiking is great and all, but sometimes, it's nice to enjoy beautiful scenery without breaking a sweat. You can do just that on Bonita Canyon Scenic Drive, an 11-mile journey that winds through the iconic rock formations of Chiricahua National Monument. Take a look:
Bonita means beautiful in Spanish, and this scenic drive couldn't be more aptly named.
The 11-mile journey winds through Chiricahua National Monument, whose iconic spindly hoodoos have earned it the nickname "Wonderland of Rocks."
Slowly gaining elevation, the drive provides access to Bonita Canyon Campground, multiple pullouts to admire the surroundings, and 17 miles of day-use hiking trails.
Choose your own adventure, either staying in the car or using the drive as a jumping-off point.
You'll ascend through the heavily forested landscape, eventually making your way to Massai Point.
This overlook boasts unparalleled, 360-degree views of Rhyolite Canyon, adjacent valleys, and distant mountain peaks.
From Massai Point, you can embark on the short and sweet Massai Nature Trail.
Spanning just half a mile, this easy loop lets you discover the fascinating story of how the park came to be.
One of our favorite things about this drive is how the scenery changes throughout the year.
From brilliant fall foliage to the lush greenery of spring and summer, no two seasons are exactly alike.
So pile the whole family into the car, roll down the windows, and get your camera ready.
This is one scenic drive you don't want to pass up.
Address: East Bonita Canyon Road, Willcox, AZ 85643.
The park is open year-round; however, the scenic drive may close in the event of hazardous weather conditions such as snow, ice, or fallen rocks/trees.
