8 Awesome Things To Do In Alaska On Black Friday Instead Of Shopping

Explore creative and fun alternatives to shopping on Black Friday, such as making wreaths, hiking, and hosting parties.

Black Friday is just around the corner, and who wants to be a square and go shopping on Black Friday? There are so many other cool and unique things you can be doing instead of dropping dough on "UNBEATABLE BLACK FRIDAY PRICES!" So here's the deal, do yourself and your family a favor by planning something a little more creative for your Friday after Thanksgiving.

For instance, get outside! Shed off those pounds you'll probably add on the day before... mmmm Turkey. Or don't, and get into the festive spirit not by shopping but by decorating your house and baking up holiday goods like cookies and gingerbread.

1) Homemade Wreathes!

Enjoy getting into the holiday spirit by getting crafty and making homemade wreathes. All you need are some boughs clipped from trees and a wire ring to fasten them on. Add some decor and BAM, you just had an amazing Black Friday without standing in a single line.

2) Enjoy the empty dog park.

I'm willing to bet the parks and trails will be more open than ever come Friday afternoon, so go ahead and take advantage. Skip the crowds and enjoy a day outside!

3) Hit the slopes.

Enjoy some skiing or sledding with family and friends!

4) Go people watching.

Let's face it, most people are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. So grab a warm cup of joe and walk the streets of downtown (or wherever your local shops are) and enjoy the crazy holiday hustle and bustle without opening your wallet.

5) Go for a hike.

This is an obvious one. Take the family out for some fun and exercise! The Eagle River Nature Center has a great parking deal for Black Friday and it's so beautiful this time of year... why not?!

6) Go see the zoo lights at Alaska Zoo.

Sure this is more for those located around the Anchorage area, but get out and enjoy those zoo lights, people!

7) Get ready for the holidays.

Spend the day inside decorating and baking for the holidays. There is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than by spending time with your friends and family while decorating for the season.

8) Host a party.

What better time to plan a party? You can call it an anti-black-friday-post-thanksgiving-prechristmas party. RSVP! BYOB! And probably NSFW.

What will you be doing on Black Friday this year?
