13 Awesome Things You Can Do In Alaska When It’s Raining… Or Snowing!

We all know that Alaska can get its fair share of rain during the summer months and, of course, ample amounts of snow during the winter months. So in order to keep your spirits high during those days when you feel like you're going to go stir crazy from following the same routine, we've compiled a list of things you can do in Alaska, rain or snow, that will keep you sane. Some of these activities are indoor only while others get you outside in the elements, but don't fear, if you don't mind getting a little cold or wet then you might find a fun new activity for those days you need to get out of the house!

1) Take the whole family to one of the many museums around the state!

I suggest the Alaska Sealife Center in Seward.

2) Go climb something!

This can be indoor or outdoor. Take a friend to the local rock gym and go bouldering OR get outside and find some real Alaskan rock to climb.

3) Go see a movie.

If you want dinner and a show, I suggest the Bear Tooth Grill where you can get excellent entertainment and some of the best pizza around.

4) Get outside anyway.

Don't be scared, a little inclement weather never hurt anyone! Start a fire if it's cold and hang out with the buds.

5) Go old school and teach the dog some new tricks.

I'm serious, what better way to entertain yourself then by entertaining your furry friend?

6) Get to shoveling.

You can get to work on that driveway or walkway of yours. I'm sure in the winter months it needs the extra attention. Or you can be a good neighbor and do a community service by shoveling the drive of an elderly person living nearby. Now that's the spirit!

7) Get cozy with your camera.

If you own a camera then take it out for some action. Get better at landscape shots OR bring a friend a long for some portraits.

8) Be a square and play some board games.

There's nothing wrong with some old fashioned board game family fun! I personally prefer Monopoly, but that's just me. If you don't like the G-rated fun you can always opt for drinking games, too.

9) Do a gear check.

Chances are if you're from Alaska you have some sort of outdoor hobby. Take this time to check and recheck your gear so you're well prepared for your next outing.

10) Go grab some of that sweet, sweet nectar.

That's right, caffeine. So what if it's a drug, we all love it. Go grab a cup with some friends and watch the snow fall.

11) Take a scenic drive.

Enjoy one of our many state or national parks. Alaska is known for them, after all.

12) Go swimming... in Alaska?

Hah hah hah! Not real swimming, silly. Fake, indoor swimming. At a water park. Like H2Oasis, I hear it's almost too much fun!

13) Attend the theater.

Get in touch with your fancy side and go see a show! A visit to the Alaska Center for Performing Arts is always a good time.
