Here in the South, most haunted places are old houses or hotels. This definitely holds true for Alabama. The historic Rawls Hotel is one of Alabama's most haunted places. Even though it's no longer operated as a hotel, the ghosts from its earlier hotel days are still hanging around. Read on to learn all about this historic landmark's hauntings.
The former Rawls Hotel is located in the heart of downtown Enterprise at 116 South Main Street.
This Spanish-style piece of architecture is one of the city's oldest buildings, and it's been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1980.
Founded in 1903, this former hotel was the city's primary social spot during its early days.
The Rawls Hotel ceased operations during the 1970s, and today it houses a restaurant, several businesses, and it's also the headquarters for Navigator Development Group Inc.
Over the years, the old Rawls Hotel has experienced its fair share of paranormal activity.
Stories of the hauntings have actually been passed down from generation to generation.
Many visitors have claimed to hear children's laughter outside of the restaurant's bathroom.
Table place settings have also been known to move around on their own.
The "Lady in Red" is one of the hotel's most well known ghost stories. According to reports, the "Lady in Red" will appear next to the second story stairs where she was reportedly pushed from the balcony to her death.
Another well known ghost story involves the ghost of Captain Japheth Rawls, the original owner of The Rawls Hotel. He's been known to hang out in the basement where strange things continue to happen.
These are just a few of the many hauntings that have been reported at the former Rawls Hotel.
