Founded in 1829, this cemetery is also referred to as Live Oak Cemetery and New Live Oak Cemetery. The latter refers to the newer portion of the cemetery.
The cemetery's most characteristic feature, which also makes it one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Alabama, is the Spanish moss draping from the towering oak trees.
