Stop By Woodside Farm Creamery, A Charming Ice Cream Shop With Delicious Hard Scoop In Delaware
There’s really no such thing as “ice cream season” in Delaware… there’s never a time when a delicious cone or sundae doesn’t sound amazing. And while you’ll find plenty of tasty ice cream shops in our beachfront towns, some of the best ice cream in the entire region can be found at Woodside Farm Creamery in Hockessin, where you can enjoy a scrumptious scoop right from the source.
The Woodside Farm Creamery opened in 1998, earning the instant adoration of the locals.
The ice cream is made from the 30 Jersey cows that live at the farm.
In addition to the many adorable cows, the farm is home to sheep, goats, pigs, and other livestock.
The farm itself isn't open to the public, but the Mitchell family is hard at work there seven days a week.
Ice cream is rooted deep in our nation's history (did you know George Washington was a big fan?), and Woodside Farm Creamery ice cream is made in nearly the same way as it was when our country was brand new.
Each morning just after dawn and each night just before dusk, the Jersey cows are milked. It's then batch pasteurized and homogenized before the addition of sugars and other ingredients necessary to turn the milk into the sweet cream that will be the ice cream base.
Ice cream is made five days a week here at the farm, and you can enjoy it at the creamery daily.
Hours vary by season, and their fall hours will be noon - 8 p.m.
The Mitchell family will occasionally joke that their ice cream was grass just a few weeks ago.
In reality, nothing could be closer to the truth.
Flavors will vary by day and by season, so make sure to check out the menu when you arrive.
Autumn means pumpkin ice cream at the farm, which is as delicious as it sounds.
You'll find the best selection of flavors at the creamery, but you'll also see Woodstock Farm Creamery ice cream at some restaurants and grocery stores around the state.
They even have an ice cream truck you might see at local events and markets. Still, you'll probably notice that it tastes best where it's born.
