A Trip To This Incredible Ice Cream Farm In Delaware Will Delight You In Every Way
Delawareans take their ice cream seriously — after all, this has been an agricultural state since the dawn of time! Dairy cows can be found in every county, and great, farm fresh ice cream is only a short drive away. One creamery in the state takes farm fresh to a new level, and you can actually hang out with their cows while you gulp down your favorite flavors.
Woodside Farm was opened by the Mitchell Family in 1796 as a dairy farm.
The Mitchells remained dairy farmers for 165 years, before switching gears in 1961. From that point on, the farm produced crops, eggs, poultry, sheep, beef, and more... but they didn't begin milking cows again until 1995.
The Creamery opened in 1998, and they've been committed to making fresh ice cream right on the farm ever since.
You could order a banana split, a cow pie sundae, worms and dirt, or whatever you're feeling — the plethora of flavors and combinations here is sure to impress.
When the Mitchell family went back to Dairy Farming, they went back to their roots. With more than 200 years of dairy experience, the family ensures that the cows here are some of the happiest cows on earth.
At any given time, there are more than 30 cows hanging out on the property, and they're all waiting to meet you!
These friendly cows are sometimes in their fields, and other times, they're roaming the property. Watch your cones — they love to try the final product, too!
In the springtime and summertime, calves can be found frolicking in the grass and playing with their moms. It's quite a sight to see!
There's nothing cuter than a baby cow finding its land legs and bumbling around the field. Grab your cone and sit out on the farm to watch them romp!
Woodside Farm Creamery is open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily for the summer. Keep an eye on their Facebook to find out their Fall hours when September rolls around.
If you can’t get enough of farm-fresh ice cream in Delaware, you’ll want to set aside time to visit Fifer Orchards, too, before the season is over! Their homemade peach ice cream uses peaches from their very own farm, and that’s another ice cream experience that’s truly special.
