Just 20 Minutes From Wilmington, Hockessin Is The Perfect Delaware Day Trip Destination
Delaware’s small towns are such fun day trip destinations, no matter what you like to do. Take a peek below to learn about Hockessin one of our favorite places to spend time without having to travel too far from Wilmington.
You'll find Hockessin in the Brandywine Valley, and it's a charming small town that draws visitors in with history, natural beauty, and fine dining. The town is just half an hour outside of Wilmington, and it's easy to get to from anywhere in New Castle County.
Scattered throughout town are historic buildings and the remnants of old estates. Below, see the Hockessin Friends Meetinghouse that dates back to 1738!
Hockessin is also well known for being home to a couple of Delaware landmarks. One of the state's only covered bridges, the Ashland Bridge, sits right here in the heart of town.
It's also known for being a town full of natural beauty. The Ashland Nature Center is a beautiful park and conservatory that's the best place to spot butterflies all spring and summer long.
Starting with a wildflower explosion in the spring, this gorgeous botanical garden blooms through the fall, bringing a splash of color and foliage to the First State. It's a magnificent destination on its own!
While you're in town, stop in to one of Hockessin's restaurants for a bite to eat. Lettie's Kitchen is known for serving up the best fried chicken in Delaware...
No matter why you choose to visit Hockessin – to shop, to dine, or to explore the outdoors – you’ll have a wonderful time getting acquainted with the gorgeous Brandywine Valley. Best of all, it’s just a short distance from Wilmington, so you don’t need to drive too far to find yourself in an entirely new world.
