Back before the park was officially state protected land, it was an undeveloped patch of woods. The pond itself was popular for fishing, and many people escaped into the quiet woods for solace.

Unfortunately for her, she was not the only one in the woods that summer. She was found by a vagrant who attacked, raped, and murdered her. Her body was found where the present-day Swamp Trail is placed.

This seven mile trail wraps around the pond, providing shoreline views and taking adventurers deep into the woods. While, for most, it's a great family hike, strolling alone may bring you an unexpected experience.

It seems that the ghost of this young runaway girl is still struggling for help far too late. While many write off the tale of the young runaway girl as local lore and just an urban legend, those who've heard the cries from deep in the woods know this tale to be far too real.
