When looking for a weekend getaway in Connecticut, your mind might not first go to our northeast corner. After all, the nickname "Quiet Corner" doesn't sound like it'd be loads of fun. But this is one of the most beautiful areas of the state. You'll find so much to explore here, from shopping and nature to museums and vineyards. This is a lovely area for a trip, whether you stay for an afternoon or a few days. It's such a relaxing getaway from your stress and worries.
First off, there's plenty of undeveloped land to explore. There are several beautiful state parks and forests in this area, including Bigelow Hollow State Park and the bordering Nipmuck State Forest.
Not a fan of getting out into the woods? Don't sweat it, there are plenty of great small towns in the region.
Putnam (pictured) has plenty of great opportunities for shopping and dining.
If you're looking to get out on the water, you'll find lots of great opportunities here.
Mansfield Hollow Lake offers great recreational activities or a chance to just laze around and lounge by the water.
Fans of museums will be happy here, too. There are several great ones to check out.
