It goes without saying that there is a great deal of history in Connecticut. The first European settlers came here in 1606, and we had thousands of years of Native American history even prior to that. Like much of New England, we have remarkably well-preserved historic spots scattered all throughout the state, from old buildings on Yale’s campus to homes that George Washington slept in. One of the best small towns in the Litchfield Hills region is the little town of Woodbury, home to just under 10,000 people. The 1754 House was actually built in the 1930s, and first opened as an inn in 1754. It's been renovated and now has modern conveniences like Wi-Fi, but, of course, still boasts plenty of historic charm. It's a great place to spend the night, but even if you're just planning a day trip to Woodbury, CT, the inn also has a delicious restaurant that's perfect for soaking up the historic atmosphere.

While Woodbury Farm Market might not be quite as historic as some other spots in Woodbury, it has been a staple of the town for more than 60 years. It's a great place to pick up plants and gardening supplies and has a great, old-fashioned feel to it.

Historic house museums are all the rage in Connecticut. It's so fascinating to see what life was like for people living centuries ago! Glebe House Museum is one of the oldest house museums in the state. It was built around 1740 and is also home to the beautiful Gertrude Jekyll Gardens.
The Canfield Corner Pharmacy is a wonderful old-fashioned drug store like the kind that used to be on every Main Street in America. It's even got a soda fountain, though that's sadly no longer functioning. The building was erected in 1876, and restored after being damaged by a fire in the late 1990s.

You'll find no shortage of adorable antique shops in Woodbury, CT - it's practically the antique capital of Connecticut! One popular shop is The Hidden Acorn, which sells both vintage and new home decor and furniture.
