Open Since 1925, The Roger Sherman Inn Is A Longtime Icon In Connecticut
We love new restaurants. There’s not much that compares to the joy of being the first in your friend group to find out how delicious a new spot is – you certainly get bragging rights! But historic restaurants in the Nutmeg State that have been around for practically forever are always a treat as well. After all, there’s a reason that these decades-long eateries have stood the test of time. One of our favorite places for fine dining just happens to also be one of the most iconic restaurants in Connecticut: The Roger Sherman Inn.
The Roger Sherman Inn is located in a historic home in New Canaan that was originally built at some point in the 18th-century. Many details of the structure's early history are lost to time, but what is known is that it was the home of a church minister and his wife.
The building was sold several times throughout the 19th-century and underwent extensive renovations, though it remained a private residence until 1925. It was then transformed into the Holmewood Inn, a 17-room hotel with a fine dining restaurant on the premises.
The Holmewood Inn eventually closed and the property was to later be renamed the Roger Sherman Inn, but one thing certainly stayed the same: this hotel is still known for its delicious restaurant!
The comfortable ambiance and high quality food makes this a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Of course, no special occasion is needed if you just feel like treating yourself to some fine dining in Connecticut!
