10 Hidden Places In Connecticut Only Locals Know About

We’ve uncovered a number of lesser known spots throughout the state, but we were worried that some folks may have missed them, so we compiled this list of hidden places just for you. From state parks to luxury resorts, there are tons of Connecticut destinations that are worth exploring. How would you like to be surrounded by 650 acres of lush forest? This riverfront park features a collection of hikes, all less than five miles long and a handicap accessible bridge system. It's designed for novice explorers to grow their love of hiking. For more information click here.

There are reportedly hundreds of colonial remains resting under the New Haven Green, so it's no surprise that there's also a church with a crypt in the basement. Or maybe not. This crypt wasn't made in the natural way. The church was just built over a graveyard and the grass was covered with bricks, making this one of the creepiest destinations around. The train no longer runs here, making it a cool cave like experience for hiking enthusiasts. The path, formerly covered in tracks, is pretty smooth and easy to navigate. You'll definitely want to bring a flashlight, as this 235 foot tunnel will have you in complete darkness, but it's totally worth checking out in every season. For more information click here.

Tucked in to a state park are the last remnants of what was once an incredible castle. It had several fireplaces, an incredible view, gorgeous stonework and the owners were known to throw lavish parties. But now it's being reclaimed by nature, so if you want to see it act fast! That's right. There's a Lao temple right here in Connecticut, and despite being built ten years ago, it's still shrouded in mystery. You're free to explore the grounds where you'll find intricate statues, shrines and plenty of worshipers. As long as you don't interrupt anything, they're extremely friendly. This farm really is dedicated to the growing of lavender, and in addition to being the most wonderfully scented farm you'll every visit, they also have a gift shop with lavender soaps, candles and more. This peninsula features a great picninc area just off the parking lot and after a quick mile long hike through the woods you'll suddenly find yourself standing on this beautiful coastline. It had balancing yugos, a haunted house, far out hippie vans, the world's largest jack-in-the-box and tons of cool vintage finds that you won't find at an antiques store.
