Summer is on the horizon and we know it’s time to start checking out ideas to add to your summer bucket list. When it comes to outdoor fun one of the best attractions for both thrills and adventure is at Lake Compounce and Crocodile Cove. Since 1846, this has been the amusement park destination in Connecticut. With four coasters to choose from, the wooden Boulder Dash Mountain Coaster is a fun thrilling ride with gorgeous views you won’t want to pass up.
Opened in 2000, the 4,162-foot wooden roller coaster was the first coaster built entirely on the side of a mountain. A special effort was made during construction to make the natural environment a part of the mountain without cutting down too many trees or disturbing the natural terrain.
You'll begin your ride with a slow ascent as your car gradually climbs upward. Take a moment to catch your breath as you coast along the gorgeous views of the tree line.
Just as you catch your breath, you'll plunge down 150 feet at speeds topping 60 mph.
You'll feel like you're out of control as you feel like you're getting just a little too close to the boulders and your stomach drops over and over and through the fun and thrilling ride.
Be sure to smile! You'll have a chance to keep a souvenir photo of your adventure.
Noted as the longest wooden coaster in New England, Boulder Dash has won awards as one of the Top Wooden Roller Coasters in the country. This includes the number one wooden roller coaster by the National Amusement Park Historical Association and winning the Golden Ticket Award for Best Wood Roller Coaster five times.
The new season opens on May 29. You'll enjoy the many options for buying your ticket and passes, from $69.99 for the basic season pass to $149.99 for platinum.
In 2021, Lake Compunce makes your plans even easier by adding an installment option on season passes. Pay for your passes in four installments for less than $18 each.
Summer fun at Lake Compounce and Crocodile Cove starts May 29. Get your passes by visiting online or calling 860-583-3300 for more information.
