The Pursuit of Pastry opened up in 2012, and the business was so successful that a few years ago, the bakery moved a few doors down to a much larger shop.
Owner and chief baker Jill Peterson took an interesting path into the baking world. She worked for most of her career as a human services counselor. At the age of 40, she decided to become a professional baker and went back to school to get a degree in baking.
The career change definitely paid off: The Pursuit of Pastry has proven to be a hot item, and one of the best bakeries in Old Saybrook, CT.
The shop is bright and cheery, with a fun colorful vibe. In addition to baked goods, you can also pick up tasty sweets.
The baked goods here are made fresh each day, starting bright and early starting at 4:00 a.m.
There's also fresh bread baked daily - this is an Irish soda bread that's a special run for St. Patrick's Day, but you can pick up other varieties all year long.
Beautifully-decorated cupcakes are always a delight, no matter the occasion.
And, of course, you can't go wrong with a freshly-baked cake!
