You Won’t Even Recognize Connecticut When You Watch This Historical Footage From The 1940s
Historical footage from 1940s Connecticut reveals significant changes in landmarks, streets, and industries over the decades.
History is an important part of all states, and Connecticut has been around longer than quite a few of them. This historical footage of 1940s Connecticut is an interesting look into decades past. Can you recognize landmarks and streets from so long ago? There have been so many changes, that some places are downright unrecognizable unless you were alive during these years. Time to take a look back into 1947 for a blast from the past.
1947 was decades ago, and thankfully, there is still footage from all those years back. How different could a few decades be? It turns out, there has been quite a bit of change.
Familiar buildings have changed, and there are so many little changes that add up to the uncanny feeling of seeing something not quite familiar.
Other things, like farming, have changed so much that they are no longer recognizable. Technology definitely replaced farming a lot faster than it did buildings, that's for sure.
In the 1940s, manufacturing was a core part of the state's income. Everything from aircraft and military parts to textiles mills and dress & coat factories like Levine & Levine worked hard to bring products to the rest of the country. Wow!
Industry and artisan products still come from Connecticut, but often in different forms. Today, manufacturing doesn't look the same, but the spirit of making things and innovation has never left.
It's like a trip back in time to see these buildings and streets so open and full of greenery. They've changed so much, but are still part of history here.
You can watch the entire footage with narration from travelfilmarchive on YouTube. If you've traveled the state quite a bit, you might recognize more sights shown in the full video.

It's amazing just how different the state seems these days.
