Lover’s Leap State Park Is A Unique Dog-Friendly Destination In Connecticut Perfect For An Outdoor Adventure

“Man’s best friend” is usually regarded as a huge cliché, but, as with most clichés, it holds an air of truth. If you have a dog, you know that they really are our best friends, which means we want to bring them everywhere. Unfortunately, that’s not always possible, but Lover’s Leap State Park is one perfect place in Connecticut that welcomes our four-legged friends.

Lover’s Leap State Park is in New Milford, Connecticut. Besides all the gorgeous views and historic landmarks, its shining feature is that it allows dogs to be walked on leashes up to seven feet long.

A great place to start with your dog is the 1895 Berlin Iron Bridge, which is one of five remaining in the state.

Dogs will love looking over the sides and seeing their two favorite things: running water and dirt!
Beyond the bridge is the Lover’s Leap Trail, which is 1.2 miles long and chock-full of sights for you and smells for your pup.

One great thing about this trail is that it’s easy to hike. Not only is it short, but the terrain is manageable and perfect for walking a dog.

There are ruins of a very wealthy estate on the grounds, which include an old teahouse and a castle.

Much of the surrounding grass is overgrown, making for a great adventure.
Overall, the park provides a huge space for dogs to run around (supervised, of course), smell things, and dig up dirt that’s not from your yard.
