While you may not be able to sit in the stands at Coors Field right now and order up a classic hot dog while taking in a Rockies game, that doesn’t mean your cravings for a delicious, juicy hot dog have gone away during the cooler months. If you are in search of the best hot dog in Denver, let this list of 7 amazing eateries be your guide. You might like to go the traditional route, or maybe you prefer making your hot dog gourmet with exotic meats and unique toppings. Either way, you’re sure to find a new favorite at one of these well-loved Mile High City hot dog joints.
Biker Jim's Food Carts can be found at the 16th Street Mall, on the Auroria Campus, and at Buckley Air Force Base between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. During baseball season, Biker Jim's is also available at all home games on level 3, just behind home plate.
From reindeer, to rattlesnake, to boar (pictured above), Biker Jim's will provide an interesting and delicious dining experience. I can promise you it won't be your standard hot dog though, especially when you start choosing from their unique toppings like cream cheese squeezed from a caulking gun or harissa roasted cactus. Come order up a gourmet dog that you won't soon forget from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays.
These nearly 1/4 lb. hot dogs have a natural casing and a flavorful blend of beef and pork. A bit of smokey flavoring is added that "snaps" when you bite into it. Steve's offers vegetarian options and has delicious sides like onion rings and fries. End your meal with a fun sno-cone or a chocolate dipped banana and you've got yourself a meal that will make you feel like a kid again.
You'll want to hit up their Hot Dog Happy Hour (every day from 3-5 p.m.) where you can enjoy a Chicago dog and fries for just $4. They also serve beer and wine, including Chicago's own Old Style Beer, and a local favorite, Infinite Monkey Theorem Wine. Their location in the Santa Fe Arts District is open Monday - Saturday from 10:30 until 8 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Their Ball Park location is open Monday - Friday 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 3 a.m. (for the late night crowd). They are closed on Sundays.
Although, Mustard's Last Stand focuses on their tasty hot dogs and hand-cut fries, their menu also features over 15 sandwiches that are hard to beat. Stop in Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Saturday and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.
Stop in for their Happy Hour every weekday from 3-6 p.m. where you can get a 16 oz can of PBR for $3 or $2 off draft beer and wine. They also offer sliders, tots, or fries for only $1.25 during that time. The Centennial location is open Monday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Sundays from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. The Stapleton location is open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.
Their menu is full of new experiences for hot dog lovers who keep coming back in an effort to try each outrageously constructed hot dog, including the BBQ Pork Dog, the Peppy Pizza Dog, or for brave diners, the Death Vader (an extra spicy brat with their homemade habenero ranch sauce). Stop in Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m until 9 p.m. or on Sundays from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
The owner, who grew up in Chicago, made sure to offer signature dogs like the authentic Billy Dog and the Coney Dog. You can also order up a Kobe beef dog or vegan variety off of the specialty menu. Billy's is definitely more than just dogs though, with their gourmet sausages, famous hand cut fries, and ice cream and gelato that is made on the premises, you really can't go wrong no matter what you order. Billy's is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., Friday and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until midnight, and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
