There’s no doubt that Arkansas has many restaurants that have stood the test of time. And these timeless gems are beloved by many who frequent them. Most of these eateries have the same formula for success that includes good food, great atmosphere, as well as a friendly staff. In many ways, there’s one restaurant that is dishing up just that. For over half a century, Weinkeller Restaurant has been offering the ultimate, timeless dining experience in Arkansas. Let’s explore this classic eatery and all that it has to offer.
Welcome to Weinkeller Restaurant, a Swiss and German-style eatery nestled atop St. Mary's Mountain in the tiny town of Wiederkehr Village.
The classic restaurant is located inside the hand-dug wine cellar of Wiederkehr Wine Cellars Inc. As the oldest and largest winery in the area, the historic wine cellar has been in operation since 1880.
However, the restaurant opened in 1967, and has been serving authentic, European-style cuisine ever since.
This classic, family-owned eatery is housed in the cellar below the entrance of a gorgeous log cabin.
When you enter the dining area, you’ll feel like you’ve left Arkansas. The ambiance will remind you of a pub or tavern in a land far away.
The dimly lit space makes for a cozy and timeless dining experience.
As far as the menu goes, you can expect items inspired by Swiss, French, Austrian, and Italian cuisines.
So, you’ll find filet mignon, Beef Stroganoff, a Swiss sausage platter, and so much more. The lunch and the dinner menus offer a variety of European cuisines.
For a starter, you’ll want to get the Weinkeller Special Antipasto, a large tray of cheese, meats, fruits and veggies, that is absolutely delicious.
Or if you’re a cheese lover, do try the gourmet cheese fondue. This savory dish will be an experience on its own.
For dinner, the main course includes lots of steak offerings, served with Swiss onion soup, salad, vegetable, and choice of German fried potatoes, baked potato, or French fries.
And for lunch you’ll find chicken, pasta dishes, seafood selections, and more.
Most are European-style recipes that have been passed down through generations.
Be sure to pair your meal with one of the delectable wine selections. The wine list is extensive, and it's guaranteed you’ll find something to savor.
Of course, dessert is always an option, and you can’t go wrong with the apple strudel, the chocolate ganache, or the cheesecake.
But the Grandma Wiederkehr's Strawberry Shortcake and the Black Forest Cherry Cake are to die for.
Besides the timeless dining experience in Arkansas, many people frequent the yearly Weinfest as well as tour the winery at Wiederkehr Wine Cellars.
The tour includes wine tasting and details about the Wiederkehr Swiss-family winemaking heritage. It’s an entire experience that you shouldn’t miss.
