This may not be grandma's house but the good food and warm atmosphere sure makes it a close second.
We're still a few weeks out before we can expect any snow but winter has definitely arrived in the Natural State. With that chill comes the need for finding cozy eateries, especially ones that specialize in comfort food.
William's Tavern Restaurant is one of the historic buildings located within the Historic Washington State Park in southwest Arkansas.
The tavern has been serving travelers for nearly 200 years! The building was owned by John Williams beginning in 1832 and was originally located in the Marlbrook community before being moved in the 1980s to its current location.
Half of the tavern's charm comes from it's simply yet cozy interior. The log fireplace will immediately defrost you after a cool tour of the state park.
The other element that makes this eatery so darn cozy is the delicious food.
Many of the items on the menu are foods that would have been served in the 1800s. These simple but mouthwatering staples like beans and cornbread are vital food groups to us Arkansans.
There's no doubt that you'll be sopping up every drop of gravy with whatever meal you order.
In addition to a side of cornbread, the other traditional comforts include buffalo (as a steak or burger), hand battered country fried steak, and served-year-round fried green tomatoes. One of our favorites for wintertime is a cup of their chili, side of cornbread, and a big mound of the chocolate earthquake cake.
After you've had your fill of southern comforts don't forget there's an entire state park to explore too!
The experience isn't over once you've cleaned your plate! Historic Washington State Park has an entire village to explore before or after your stop at William's Tavern Restaurant. To learn more about William's and the park, head to this site.
